We are incredibly blessed to present the first stage adaptation of the hit 2023 movie musical Journey to Bethlehem!
This is the nativity story like you've never quite seen it — set in the original time, but with thrilling songs, characters, and choreography. It's sure to be a memorable event for the whole family you won't want to miss!
AUDITIONS will take place September 21 & 22 at The King’s University in Southlake. Auditions are open to AGES 8 through ADULT.
PERFORMANCES will take place on weekends in December, with 15+ scheduled shows between December 4–20 at The King’s University in Southlake, TX. Stay tuned for ticket information.

MARY — Late Teens–20s Spirited, intelligent, independent, and deeply thoughtful. Mary dreams of becoming a teacher and struggles with the expectations placed on her before being called into something far greater than she imagined. Requires strong acting instincts, emotional range, warmth, humor, and a compelling singing voice.
JOSEPH — 20s–Early 30s Earnest, inventive, charming, and endearingly awkward. Joseph begins as a reluctant participant in an arranged marriage but grows into a devoted, courageous protector of Mary and Jesus. Requires strong comedic timing, emotional depth, romantic chemistry, and strong vocals.
HEROD — 40s–60s A flamboyant, narcissistic, volatile ruler who is both highly theatrical and genuinely dangerous. Herod delights in power but is increasingly driven by paranoia and fear of losing his throne. Requires a bold comedic actor who can also bring real menace and dramatic weight. Strong featured singing role.
ANTIPATER — 20s–40s Herod’s intelligent, ambitious son and heir. Confident and commanding, but increasingly troubled by the possibility that he is becoming like his father. One of the show’s strongest dramatic arcs, requiring authority, intensity, vulnerability, and emotional depth. Featured singing role.
BALTHAZAR (Magi) — 40s–60s+ A brilliant master astronomer and the driving force behind the Magi’s journey. Passionate, impatient, authoritative, and deeply committed to following the star. Requires strong comic timing, energy, and a sincere sense of faith and wonder. Singing role with some dance.
GASPAR (Magi) — 40s–60s+ A highly educated scholar with an eccentric, sleepy, and often befuddled personality. Dryly funny, lovable, and capable of genuine excitement when confronted with the miraculous. Strong comedic role with featured singing and some dance.
MELCHIOR (Magi) — 40s–60s+ A master navigator with supreme confidence in his abilities—and an equally strong enthusiasm for food. Sophisticated, dry, easily offended, and consistently funny. Requires excellent character work and comedic timing. Singing role with some dance.
GABRIEL — 20s–40s A mighty, battle-hardened angel with an unexpectedly human and humorous side. Gabriel brings both comedy and awe to the Annunciation and later becomes a powerful presence in the Nativity. Requires an actor who can balance warmth, physical comedy, authority, and spiritual gravitas. Some singing.
JOACHIM — 40s–50s, Mary’s Father Loving, expressive, traditional, and stubborn. Joachim genuinely wants the best for Mary but struggles when her dreams and calling challenge his expectations. A rich character role combining humor, conflict, tenderness, and emotional payoff.
ANNA — 40s-50s, Mary’s Mother Warm, perceptive, practical, and emotionally grounded. Anna understands Mary deeply and often serves as the calming presence within the family. Requires warmth, humor, and strong dramatic instincts.
DEBORAH — 20s, Mary’s Older Sister Practical, supportive, opinionated, and enthusiastically invested in Mary’s upcoming marriage. Deborah combines sisterly warmth with strong comic energy and shares prominent musical material with Rebekah.
REBEKAH — 13+, Mary’s Younger Sister Energetic, romantic, outspoken, and hilariously enthusiastic about marriage and weddings. A bright comic presence with plenty of personality, but also genuine love for her family. Featured singing role.
ELIZABETH — 60s, Mary’s Older Cousin Warm, wise, spiritually grounded, and courageous. Elizabeth becomes a refuge and source of encouragement for Mary while carrying a miraculous pregnancy of her own. Requires maturity, tenderness, and quiet strength.
ZECHERIAH — 60s, Elizabeth’s Husband A faithful priest and gentle husband who helps protect and care for Mary. The role includes significant physical storytelling during the portion of the story in which Zecheriah cannot speak. Requires warmth, sincerity, and expressive acting.
JACOB — 40s–50s, Joseph’s Father Stern, traditional, and deeply concerned with family honor. Jacob provides a sharp contrast to Joachim and becomes a powerful source of conflict when Mary reveals her pregnancy.
RACHEL — 40s–50s, Joseph’s Mother Serious, reserved, and traditional. Rachel appears primarily within Joseph’s family and the betrothal sequence and provides a contrasting presence to Mary’s more exuberant family.
FIG — Mary’s Donkey Mary’s loyal companion, best friend, and fiercely protective sidekick. Intelligent, expressive, mischievous, and often very funny. Likely portrayed by two performers working together as one character. Requires strong physical storytelling, coordination, character work, and comedic instincts.
SERVANT GIRL A servant whose haunting rendition of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” helps launch the Magi on their journey. A small but memorable featured vocal role requiring simplicity, sincerity, and a clear singing voice.
YOUNG SHEPHERD GIRL A young shepherd featured prominently during the Nativity sequence, including the opening of “Silent Night.” Requires a natural, unaffected presence, warmth, and a strong young singing voice.
ENSEMBLE — Mostly Teens & Adults (some Children) A highly active storytelling ensemble portraying the people of Nazareth, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Herod’s court, the Magi’s entourage, shepherds, merchants, soldiers, prisoners, townspeople, angels, and members of the angry mob. The ensemble plays a major role in the musical’s comedy, spectacle, movement, and vocal storytelling. Many performers may portray multiple characters. Singing/Dancing.
SOLDIERS / LIEUTENANT / EXECUTIONER Authoritative and physical character roles connected primarily to Herod and Antipater. Opportunities range from ensemble work to featured dialogue and dramatic moments.
ANGELS / CHOIR A strong vocal ensemble central to the spiritual and musical climax of the Nativity. Requires confident ensemble singers capable of creating a powerful, unified sound.
SHEPHERDS Warm, grounded ensemble characters who become part of the Nativity story. May be doubled with other ensemble roles.
LITTLE LAMB / SHEEP / CAMELS — Children & Teens Theatrical animal roles portrayed through movement and costume rather than realism. Excellent opportunities for young performers with strong physical expression, focus, and imagination. Camels may be portrayed by multiple performers working together.
